genie bra

I am not usually enticed by As Seen On TV merchandise. However, I was drawn in every time I caught the “Ahh” Bra infomercial.

I was in Kmart and stumbled upon an entire section of As Seen On TV merchandise, which included the Ahh Bra AND the Genie Bra. For me, two choices are too many. It took me twenty minutes before I made a decision to go home with the Genie Bra. I based my decision on getting two Genie bras for the price of one Ahh Bra. The two colors in the Genie Bra box were black and nude. Sold.

When I returned home, I immediately went to try on the Genie Bra and said, “Wow!” The Genie Bra felt SO good and it had wonderful support. I am a natural 34DD and it takes quiet a bit of support to hoist my girls up to a classy position.

I recently visited Victoria’s Secret to try on bras. The price for one bra is ridiculous. However, the Victoria’s Secret bras make my boobs look paid for and that is impressive. One bra was so pretty I wished it were a bikini top; all I needed was some makeup to powder over the stretch marks and Vah VOOM.

To say the Victoria’s Secret bras were comfortable would be an overstatement; I usually select underwire. I have a Victoria’s Secret bra that I nicknamed my “in yo’ face” bra because I felt like my boobs were right under my chin. In addition to that everywhere I went, I felt eye contact meets boobs.

Once the newness wore off on the pretty Victoria’s Secret bra, I no longer felt like doing the whole hand washing routine.  So I threw my bra in the wash with some other so-called delicates and of course the bra was never the same. My “in yo’ face” boobs were slightly off kilter again; their natural state.

One day I was in Walgreens for some – I would like to sound purposeful and say medicine but I went in there for candy.  In Walgreens I found a whole section of As Seen On TV merchandise, which also included a selection of Ahh Bras. I said, “Why not?” It was military discount day, so I would get the bra for 20% off.

ahh bra

I went home and took off my Genie Bra to try on the Ahh Bra.  To say it felt good would be an understatement. It felt marvelous!! But let me tell you the difference, because the difference is significant.  I had to put my Genie Bra back on in order to leave the house.

My Ahh Bra is now nicknamed my pajama bra; and I love it for just that.  I do not feel cute walking around in my pajamas with boobs dangling and one hanging lower than the other. The Ahh Bra has just enough support to level my boobs in pajamas and it is also comfortable enough to sleep in. The Ahh Bra is not a work or church bra.  Let’s just say your bounce would be everybody’s business.

The Genie bra has padding. No amount of chill or desire is going to show through this bra. It is perfect for work, church and errands in between. In my opinion the Genie Bra is cute, but its not sexy like my in yo’ face bra. I can tell you that my husband does not like the “hard ” padded Genie Bra. Due to lack of padding, he loves the Ahh Bra. Go figure.

I saved the best for last. You can throw the Genie and Ahh bras in the wash with anything from car towels to grass stained knee jeans, and they will come out like they went in.  Okay, I’m exaggerating. I never tried that. I still wash them nicely but they get tossed around with everyday clothes, not so-called delicates.

The Genie Bra is now my everyday bra and the Ahh Bra is my pajama bra. The in yo’ face bra will be for special Vah Vah Voom occasions.

Here’s the thing… the definition of “so-called delicates”: Articles of clothing that you wash gently and hang to air dry; you do not want them to shrink because they are all you have to wear that fits.

I am all in for 100% comfort.

  1. OMG I have been doing this too. I hate wearing bra inside the house. And when all of a sudden someone visits me or knocks on my door. It’s such a hassle putting on my bra on top speed.

I have been looking for a comfy everyday bra too but unfortunately haven’t found any :/
    Nice review! :)

  4. I H-A-T-E “eye contact meets boobs”. Come on guys! You notice it when you are endowed up there. The phase “your bounce would be everybody’s business.” cracked me up. My D’s are gonna try out the genie bra because I hate spending so much dough on the VS ones or even those at Macy’s or Nordstrom. So happy I visited you today!

    • Thanks for stopping by Gina. I can’t imagine what a Nordstrom bra would set you back. It would be different if bras lasted a little longer than they do. But we have to do what we have to do. A good bra can make a break an outfit just like good/bad hair days.

  5. I loved this post. My husband has been wanting me to get an Aah bra. I need support. I’m not a shopper so I haven’t seen the Genie bra. Guess I need to get out more. I do have a couple of those VS bras as well. Yes, not much on comfort but men love having a conversation with the girls. I sleep in sports bras because I too, like that support at night. Now I know what to buy and what to expect. Thanks.

Stopping by and following G+ and FB from the Thursday hop. Hope you’ll follow back. Donna

    • Thanks for your comment Donna. The Genie bra is like a sports bra but I wouldn’t use it for that. The one I have that I bought from a sporting goods store. I could do jumping jacks in it and my boobs would stay in place.

  6. Yippee for you on your first guest post girl friend, and on a topic that is just so important to so many woman….right on!!!

First of all let me say I didn’t even know Victoria Secret did bra’s for boob’s that size., where have I been??

With that being said Kenya I love this review and I love comfortable bra’s, I wish I could find one!!

For my cup size you gonna need to add a couple of DD’s…I wonder if there’s be a chance these bra’s would hold my big ole girls up?? sigh….I pay huge …no pun intended money at the bra stores for bras that fit and support these things.

I’d be willing to try if you thought either or both if you thought it was worth it, even for just around the house…comfort and all. I don’t need to look like Dolly Parton in my garden ya know. lol!

    • Thanks for your comment Jennifer. At VS only the “smaller” sizes are on the display. I have to get my DD’s out of a drawer. You know just like shoe shopping, only the cute little size six is out on display. When I see the shoe in my size I understand why the larger sizes aren’t on display. LOL! Both bras come in larger sizes. I wouldn’t vote for support with the Ahh Bra but its worth a shot for around the house comfort to try the Genie Bra. Who wants to wear an expensive uncomfortable bra while doing yard work?

  7. Wonderful review ~ very informative ~ thanks, namaste, (A Creative Harbor)

  8. A good and comfortable bra has to be the most important thing in a woman’s wardrobe. They are hard to find.

  9. Thanks so much for your review! This coming from a gal who’s been wearing just awful nursing bras for the last 10 months. That’s one thing about nursing that I am looking forward to saying goodbye to. I love your review writing style – very matter of fact, here it is, no frills or fluff. Very cool.

  11. Love this review! I have wondered about these. Would you sleep in your genie bra or does the padding bother you at night? I have been wearing some hanes front close cotton stretch bras around the house and to sleep.

    • Jamie, My husband would be annoyed for me to sleep in it. ;-) The padding doesn’t bother me at all. The Genie bra spandex is a little tighter underneath so it does feel good to take it off at the end of the day. Since I have the choice my preference would be sleeping in the Ahh bra.

  12. I have totally seen both of those bras and have contemplated picking them up! As a {ahem} well-endowed gal myself, I worried that they wouldn’t give enough support. So…thanks for saving me trying the aaah bra. Maybe I will give the other one a go!

    • Susan, I am curious about the layering for added support as they show in the Ahh Bra infomercial but, I’d rather pay half price for the curiosity.

  13. I must admit, I love this bra! I even use it as my nursing bra!

  16. Thank you for doing this review! I’ve been interested in these bras, since I really hate wearing bras…but since I’m a DD myself, I didn’t think they would work. Nice to get a “friend’s” input!

  17. Kenya, I loved your post. I hesitated buying either, but now I will reconsider the genie Bra. My friend bought the Ahh Bra from Walgreens and took it back. She thought it was awful, uncomfortable, and she almost had to cut it off. I’m glad you’re getting enjoyment out of each one. When our girls are happy, we’re happy. Great post.

    • Mary, I think choosing the correct one falls under “size matters”. Part of my 20 minute hesitation had to do with wondering what size to get. Genie was easy enough because the chart used bra sizes. The Ahh bra was based on shirt size. For me it depends on the shirt. Sometimes I wear large, sometimes a medium. The Genie bra chart size was large and then I went with my gut on the Ahh bra and chose medium – which was correct.

  18. Great review of both bras. I’m in desperate need of new bras. I need more support, but I can’t stand padding, and don’t like the ‘in your face’ effect. I did find one bra that is perfect. Need to find more. I was feeling the Genie bra until you said hard and padded. When I get an extra $56 I may invest in a Victoria Secrets bra, but I doubt it. If my breast would stop changing sizes I would be okay. They went from a 36C to a 32B, now they are a 34B+/C. All in about a year and a half. What the heck! Makes spending alot of money on bras futile. Thanks for the info.

    • Vanessa, with the Ahh Bra, you choose your shirt size. So it might be something that would work for you. You can also layer them for more support but at $19.99 a piece, I don’t think it would be worth it.

  19. Awesome review!!! The commercials for both the Ahh and Genie bras draw me in, too, but I just haven’t found the right coupon/sale/mark-down price combo to justify purchasing them without knowing whether or not they’d be worth the price paid. I know now!!!

    • I feel you on that Michelle. I get Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons all the time. I was wondering if they carried the bras there among their As Seen on TV merchandise.
