Collecting Worker’s Compensation Benefits Should Not Be A Nightmare
Marilyn is a very good friend of mine who works in the Housekeeping Department at one of the largest hospitals here in Philadelphia. She got hurt on the job a couple of years ago. It wasn’t one of those phony slip and fall cases either. Her injury was severe enough to require surgery on her right knee. Now if you think (like I did) the fact that she works in a hospital, got hurt on the job, had her surgery performed in the same hospital she had no worries. Guess what? You’re wrong. Her worries had just begun.
Disclosure: This is a sponsored post, nevertheless all opinions are mine.I won’t pretend to be well versed on worker’s compensation because I’m not, however I know enough to know she clearly qualified for it. But instead of showing concern for a long-time employee in good standing, her employer made her feel as if she was faking her pain and that her job was in jeopardy.
She called me so many times in tears, because: (a) She didn’t know how she was going to pay her bills. (b) They gave her a mandatory return to work or lose your job date. (c) She was in so much pain she could barely walk.
I am, or perhaps I just like to believe, I’m a patient person but Marilyn exasperated me because I think… at some point – common sense should kick in. Getting a second opinion when you’re in pain or calling an attorney when your rights have been infringed upon is a no-brainer. Right?
She was so afraid of offending her employer that I finally got ticked off and told her if she wasn’t going to help herself, stop whining and suck it up!
Here’s what happened. She stopped speaking to me, but she did contact an attorney who specializes in Worker’s Compensation. She got her benefits, and she went and got that second opinion. Turns out the reason she was in so much pain was because of “complications” from the surgery. In other words they botched it. She had to have a full knee replacement operation.
A month later, she started speaking to me again too.
If you need a Worker’s Compensation Attorney in Philadelphia, don’t hesitate!
